You continue to be an activist, as you refuse defeat. A year after Shelby vs. Holder, protestors gathered to voice their concerns of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 being essentially nulled. Many citizens throughout the United States believed that the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was still necessary, as many marginalized areas underwent voting discrimination, mainly due to lack of polling locations. Many civil rights activists took the case as a step backward in their ongoing fight for equality in America. Voting Rights in America should be handled with extreme care due to the fact that voting is a fundamental right of every eligible American. These protestors are fighting to ensure that voting is available to every American that is able to vote, as it is a Constitutional right to citizens, including minority groups that may be discriminated against. Although the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was deemed unconstitutional, it does not mean that it was not needed for minority groups to ensure easy access voting and civil rights.
